Annual Golf for Guthrie Hospice was huge success
Guthrie’s 10th Annual Golf for Guthrie Hospice was held at The Club at Shepard Hills on June 22. This year was another successful event, raising over $33,000 for Guthrie Hospice.
Many local and regional businesses as well as individuals support this tournament at various levels. Williams Auto Group was once again the title sponsor, and Keck’s Food Service, Inc. was the Awards Luncheon Sponsor, as they have been since the tournament began.
Guthrie Hospice provides end of life services for patients and their families throughout the region as well as bereavement services in the community. Services are provided to all who request them, regardless of their ability to pay. The mission of the tournament is to raise funds for Guthrie Hospice to enhance and support hospice programs and services, as well as offset the expenses related to caring for indigent patients. The tournament has raised over $285,000 since its inception in 2003.
More than 150 sponsors and donors and 38 foursomes contributed to this year’s event.
In addition to the first place honors going to the Gannon Associates Team – Steve Sumner, Mark Gannon, Doug Brown and Jake Gorman, awards were also given out for the following: second place went to John H. Murray & Son – Peter Baird, Dave Coldiron, Bernie Duggan and Rich Pascuzzo; third place to Sayre Health Care Center – Ted Darrow, Dan Darrow, Joe Darrow and Josh Roe; middle place to Valley Veterans – Mike Hughes, Jerry Keene, Brian Simonovich and Jim Barrett, Jr.; last place to Highland Associates – Tracy Wescott, Deb Saunders, Bridget Goryeb and Anita Kingsbauer; closest to the pin #16 – Tim Hampford and Deb Saunders; closest to the pin #7 – Scott Beeman and Kristi Dunn; and closest to the line #17 – Scott Beeman and Larry Beeman (tied).
Putting contests, hole-in-ones, 50/50 drawings, special raffles, and skins were also offered during the tournament. To help raise additional funds, a live auction was held in which the following items were auctioned off: Golf for four at Tioga Country Club; a Swiss Quartz watch; a framed 2009 World Series lithograph signed by Phillies Manager Charlie Manuel; a framed Phillies autographed poster of Hall of Famers Robin Roberts and Steve Carlton; an autographed Roy Halladay baseball; Walt Disney World Passes; Dicks Sporting Goods Champions Tour tickets; an All In One Computer; and a 2012 Harlem Globetrotters signed basketball.
Tournament Committee Chair Tim Clark said, “I’m very appreciative of the support that is shown for this tournament and Guthrie Hospice. It’s amazing the number of businesses and golfers who come out each year to support this event. On behalf of the committee, I express our sincere appreciation to everyone involved.”
