Floral Exhibit announced

Attention all flower growers! It’s time again to be thinking about getting your plants ready for exhibition at the 137th Troy Fair. Co-superintendents Laura Steele and Barb Andrus are planning to have a fabulous display of exhibits this year. They encourage all junior and seniors to bring in their favorite flower specimen.

Last year Karlene Shimko of Gillett entered an eye-catching Castor Bean plant, and organizers are hoping she will bring one again this year. Gene Martin had an interesting Grapefruit Tree.

In the past couple years, Junior participants were Martina Bradford, Nicholas Stein, Katelyn Thomas, Courtnie Hoffman, Jessica Pavey, Kendal and Landon Jenkins, Kennedy Doan, Madison McNeal-Buchanan, Shane and Paige McCarthy, Dyshon Hughson, Jayden and Saydi Renzo and Alexander Porter.

Youth are invited to start a Junior Garden Club. They meet five times a year for a meeting, workshop or visit to a local garden club, and only need four members to start a club. Junior membership fee is $2 a year.

Refer to the Troy Fair Book Dept. 17 Floral for general information. Organizers  are presenting the Dan Roy Memorial Award again for the best in originality and design in large displays. The Dan Roy Memorial Award wins $20 and is sponsored by the Troy Heritage Garden Club. You can view some photos of last year by visiting www.troyfair.com and searching under Troy Fair photos.

Bring your entries to the Exhibit building, which is located in Gate 2 behind the Mitchell House, on Saturday, July 21, between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Doors close at 4 p.m. for judging. Exhibits may not be removed until Sunday, July 29.
