Animal Care Sanctuary (ACS) in East Smithfield has teamed up with Shulman Company, Inc. in Elmira, N.Y. to make recycling your old junk easier, while also contributing to a great cause. All proceeds will go towards the care of over 600 animals that live temporarily or permanently at the sanctuary.

Old metal appliances, aluminum cans and other metals (stainless, copper, brass, steel and tin) can be dropped off Aug. 11 and 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Tops Market parking lot on Elmira Street in Sayre, Pa.

Ever wonder what happens to that old washer you hauled out to the curb? It is considered “recycled” if someone takes it, right? But what if no one does? If not recycled properly, it will end up in a landfill where it will sit for decades, even centuries to come. Appliances often contain toxic chemicals that can create significant damage to our soil, air and water supplies. When these appliances are recycled, these harmful chemicals are responsibly removed. Landfills can’t do that. They simply dispose of the appliance in the same way all the other junk is disposed of.

Eco-friendly companies like Shulman Company, Inc. make sure items like these are properly recycled. Responsible disposal is easy, convenient and satisfying, leaving you with the peace of mind in knowing that your useless items are being recycled and used for good.

Shulman Company, Inc. is generously donating the containers and their transportation for your junk collection. They will then give ACS 100 percent of the proceeds. So go to your basement or garage and collect your old and unused junk, and visit ACS in the Tops parking lot. There might even be a four-legged friend there to greet and thank you personally!

ACS is a 501(c)3 organization that relies entirely on donations. No local, state or federal government assistance is received.
