Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra to Perform at MU
As part of Mansfield University’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Alex Torres & His Latin Orchestra will perform in concert on Friday, Sept. 21, 8 p.m. in Steadman Theatre. The concert is free and open to the public.
Torres and his ensemble perform an original blend of Afro-Caribbean rhythms such as Salsa, Merengue, Cha-cha, Bomba, Plena and Latin Jazz.
The group has won several awards and has shared the stage with Tito Puente, Branford Marsalis and many other stars, bands and orchestra.
Their music has been featured in the movies Slammin’ Salmon and Old Dogs, several TV shows including Ugly Betty and The Glades, and is even featured on the soundtracks of two video games.
While at Mansfield the group will also present a Latin percussion clinic at 5 p.m. on Sept. 21 in Steadman Theatre. It is also free and open to anyone who is interested.
